DICOM training

This two-day training session is for radiologists, IT managers, network managers, application engineers, biomedical engineers, radiology technicians, specialists, or anyone who wants to learn more about the DICOM (Digital Imaging and COmmunications in Medicine) standard.

First part: “Understanding DICOM”

The goal is to master the major concepts of the DICOM standard, to understand the principles, the definition of images and communication services, as well as their concrete uses. The limitations and evolution of the standard will be described along with a discussion of its relation to other standards and similar approaches (notably IHE, HL7, HPRIM, etc.). The objectives include obtaining a solid understanding of the stakes at hand and analyzing both current and future trends.

Second Part: “DICOM in Practice”

As a complement to the first section, this portion covers the information required to successfully install a new DICOM system in a hospital and to perform the related technical support. “Typical” problems and shortcomings are presented. “DICOM in Practice” is intended for audiences who seek to understand the technical aspects of the standard: reading/writing Conformance Statements, definition and configuration of DICOM equipment, detailed study of image files (encoding, compression, etc.) and DICOM services (associations, transfer protocols, encoding, etc.). This training program enables participants to gain the practical knowledge needed to write a bid invitation and to evaluate solutions.
