Origins

Founded in 1996 in Rennes, France, ETIAM has positioned itself as one of the foremost European leaders in the field of medical multimedia connectivity.

Since 1983, the Rennes University Hospital has experimented with one of the worlds first PACS, even before the existence of PCs and the standardization of IP communication.

In 1989, the Signaux et Images en Médecine laboratory, directed by Prof. Jean-Marie Scarabin, neurosurgeon, launched a project to create an innovative prototype in digital medical imagery (PACS, 3D workstations, 3D morphometry, surgical navigation systems, magnetoencephalography (MEG)...) CERIUM (the European Center for Medical Imaging Research). A team of experienced engineers was formed to manage complex collaborative projects between hospitals, researchers and industry (including General Electric, the world leader in medical imaging equipment).

ETIAM was founded upon completion of the CERIUM project by this team of 5 engineers, each having between 5-15 years of experience in advanced imaging software development and telemedicine applications.

Development

Beginning in 1998, ETIAM expanded beyond its R&D activities, and began developing products and made significant contributions to industry standardization, particularly through DICOM and IHE.

In 1999, the team expanded with the arrival of a general manager with extensive experience in international business and medical equipment.

After an initial phase dedicated to R&D financed in part by venture capital, ETIAM continued to grow steadily (approximately 20% annually), all while remaining financially profitable (the company has had positive profit and loss statements since 2001).

In 2007, strengthened by over 10 years of indirect sales in the United States, ETIAM created a subsidiary called ETIAM Corp. based on the East Coast.

ETIAM has 30 employees, including 10 computer science engineers in research and development.
